When Scout says, “Jem picked up a rock and threw it jubilantly at the carhouse. Running after it, he called back: ‘Atticus is a gentleman, just like me!’ “, it implies that Atticus has a significant influence on how Jem and Scout behave (Lee 113). Right before this scene, Scout says she was going to tell her classmates about Atticus’s marksmanship skills, but Jem says, “ ‘I reckon if he’d wanted us to know it, he’da told us.
