Lula did not like white people coming to black church because of how they treat the black people and the stereotype about them that all the white people discriminate the black people and they are servants for them. Yes, the white people discriminate the black people, but this does not mean everyone in the city are the same. Atticus and his family are one of the white in the neighborhood, but they do not discriminate anyone in the society. If Lula thinks that Jem and Scout should not come to their church, she should realize their father Atticus who is defending for Tom Robinson. She should again notice that …show more content…

No one listened to these evidences and gave him a punishment. Even though, Atticus lost this case, but it allowed the jury to think about who is right? Who is wrong and who should be punished? Moreover, “He had announced in the school yard that Scout Finch’s defended ns.”(Lee, 99). There is nothing wrong with Atticus defending Tom Robinson. Is not he is a person? Do not he wants equal rights? Why would he should be punished for no reason? Atticus is the lawyer and it is his job to help everyone to achieve equal rights they need in the city. It is his job to prove a person point by showing them the true proof. People in the community and students at schools discriminate Atticus and his family because he is defending an African-American. Atticus Finch believed that every man should be treated fairly. He let people know his views by defending a black man, Tom Robinson, much to the dismay of the townspeople. He also taught his children to not have prejudices against black people. He tells them “As you grow older, you 'll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don 't you forget it—whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, that white man is trash (224). " The moral lessons Atticus teaches Scout contrasts with the culture of Maycomb where the white people continue to treat black people as less than themselves.…

Atticus sets a good example to Scout and Jem because he believes everyone is equal and; therefore, Tom Robinson is black, it doesn't mean he can't defend him. For example, Atticus tells Scout many times that if he didn't defend Tom Robinson he wouldn't tell Jem or Scout not to do something. He has to set a good example for his children and if he expects them to do something or follow certain values, then he must display them first. In the book Atticus says, "The main one is, if I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature, I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something again.” This quote proves that whatever Scout or Jem believe in they have to stand up for it.…

In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus was given the task to defend Tom Robinson, a black man, in court. Because of the racially biased thoughts surrounding black people, (being lower than white people, being hungry for white women, etc) Atticus was discriminated. For example, his nephew Francis was arguing against Scout ‘Francis said “But now he’s [Atticus] turned out a nigger lover we’ll never be able to walk the streets of Maycomb agin. He’s ruinin’ the family, that’s what he’s doin’.…

This was clear indication that Atticus is not a racist like the rest of the town. However, being a non-racist is not what makes him morally courageous. When Atticus said this he was speaking to Jem, Scout was also listening, and the importance of this is that he needs his own children to understand that no man is better than another man purely because of how they were…

Atticus shows integrity because he does not like to keep secrets, he does not judge his opinion of someone based on their skin color and because he does not take advantage of people. Atticus, in contrast to many other characters in the novel, does not accept the institutionalized racism that is entrenched into Maycombian society. Instead, he fights racial prejudice because he views it as fundamentally flawed and stemming from a lack of empathy and understanding for those outside one’s social group. Furthermore, Atticus’ emotional investment in Tom Robinson’s case shows the personal level on which racism affects him. When discussing with Scout why he was defending Tom Robinson, Atticus explained, “… every lawyer gets a case at least once in his life that affects him personally. This one’s mine, I guess.”…

Because judge Taylor put Atticus on Tom Robinson 's case. He did this sos Tom would have a fighting chance to win. Because at this time in history if a black person and a white person is in court they white person would win anytime. No matter how the evidence point to the black person, that just treated people equally. All the white people in town would be on that white person 's side even though nobody liked him.…

He proves that Bob Ewell was responsible for the crime. He gave it his best shot that he could but the jury was so caught up on Tom Robinson’s skin color. Atticus was not surprised by the conviction but was mad at how racism in Maycomb county can overrule the Justice System. In court he talks about how the jury would buy into the assumption that all blacks are evil and immoral. He then states that this assumption is false and that all men are created equal no matter what skin color.…

Mayberry, malt shops, and Leave it to Beaver all represent the traditional America, but one other thing is missing: To Kill a Mockingbird. To Kill a Mockingbird was written by Harper Lee and takes place in Maycomb County, Alabama during the Great Depression. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because of its vivid descriptions of southern life during this time and its morally dense content. To Kill a Mockingbird is a book of fiction, though it is taken from the childhood of Harper Lee. The book is told from the perspective of Jean Louise Finch (Scout) as an adult looking back into her childhood.…
