“... Robert E. Lee Ewell!”(227) The clerk said loudly. I Stand up slowly and confident. I was ready to take that black man out of my life. As I am heading over to take my oath, I thought of what type of man would defend a black person. Atticus ain't going to be able to convince anyone else that a black person would be considered not guilty. I ain't worried, he ain't no hero. I ain't going to say I was not worried. I felt my whole body becoming hotter and hotter every step I took. Inside the court felt like a I was inside a furnace. My neck was brights red and droplets of sweat running down my back. Under my breath I whispered “-so help me God.”(227) I do not want to talk to no traitors. They would rather defend a black person than support me and my daughter. “Mr. Robert Ewell?”(229) asked Mr. Gilmer. “That's m’name, cap’n,”(229) I replied. It began, all the questions came at me. Even though I was nervous I needed to stay calm. If I say one thing wrong it can be used against me. I ain’t going to mess up because I ain’t going to let no black person get away with this. …show more content…
Anger and humiliation grew inside me that makes me hate Atticus even more. The Judge caught on to what he was doing faster than I could imagine. Atticus is sneaker than I thought he would be. More sweat started to drip down my neck and back. The room felt humid and was hard to breath in. That was Atticus’s last question so I got to leave. I stood up slowly and calm and walked down the aisle. I felt everyones eyes looking at me. I thought to myself, can Atticus actually convince these people? I started to build up all the anger and hatred towards Atticus. I began to walk out to get some fresh air. My daughter is now getting called up. She knows better than to say I physically hurt her. I got back in the courtroom and see my daughter getting badgered. Atticus is too clever and has his ways with words that make people think twice before

Having the ability to do something that may frighten another person is a strong trait. Not just anybody can claim they have the courage to do something whether it's standing in front of class and reading or sticking up for a kid who is getting bullied. To kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee consists of multiple moments where a character is being courageous, however Atticus Finch beholds the most courageous acts in the book. Atticus Finch, a lawyer and father to Jem and Scout, takes upon numerous acts of courage from shooting a mad dog to defending an African American male accused of rape during a time where cruel racism was common.…

The movie To Kill a Mockingbird, based on the novel written by Harper Lee showed the life of a child during the Great Depression and captured the theme of innocence taken away by evil. In most cases the book is always better than the film because life lessons are taken away in greater detail and are much easier to apply to a reader's life. Many movies stray from the book as did To Kill a Mockingbird, but also captured the scenes not shown in the book. Unlike the book, the movie had taken away the relationship that Boo Radley had with the children. One part of the book which was not shown in the movie was Mrs. Maudie's house fire when Boo Radley had draped a blanket over Scout’s shoulders while Jem and Scout were standing in the cold.…

Another question I think the townspeople will ask Atticus is why would he defend a black person. Maybe the courthouse put Atticus up to the task, but I think Atticus wanted to defend Tom because he didn’t want to see an honest man go to jail without a fight. I also believe that Atticus wanted to defend a black man is because he wanted to show that not all back people are liars. The last question Atticus will be asked is why did he un-button his clothes when he was questioning his witness. I think Attics un-buttoned his clothes because he wanted to show the court he is a man with good intentions even if is defending a black man.…

As Atticus strives to defend Tom Robinson, he also uses several appeals to make his closing argument convincing to the jury and the audience. One appeal that Atticus used in his closing argument is “In the name of god, do your duty”. This shows how Atticus used his emotions to try to convince the jury and the audience that Tom is not guilty. Another appeal that Atticus used in his closing argument is “All men are created equal”. This shows how Atticus used his emotions to tell the jury and the audience that just because of Toms nationality, it doesn’t mean that he is the guilty one who raped and harmed Mayella Ewell.…

“I don’t know, but they did it. They’ve done it before and they did it tonight and they’ll do it again and when they do it-seems that only children weep” (Lee, 215). This shows how morally grounded Atticus is, he knows that his client is innocent and that he is only being prosecuted for his skin color. The reason that only children will be weeping is because they have yet to be corrupted in their views, especially their views when it comes to right and wrong. Children have not yet learned to “see color” and treat someone who is not the same color as them with disrespect.…

“Simply because we were licked a hundred before we started is no reason for us not to try to win.” (101) says Atticus Finch, the main character in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Atticus defends Tom Robinson, a black man, accused of attacking a white woman. Set in Jim Crow Alabama, Atticus is making a decision many people in Maycomb do not understand- taking a stand for a black man. Even though Atticus knows he does not have a chance at winning Tom’s case, because of his character, it makes sense for him to defend Tom Robinson because, Atticus does what is right, he lives by the “Golden Rule”, and he wants to set a good example to Jem and Scout.…

Rhetorical Analysis of Atticus’ Closing Testimony As citizens of the United States, we are inevitably entitled to certain rights that cannot be taken away from us. According to the Bill of Rights, Amendment six states, “In all criminal cases, an accused person, for whatever allegations, has the right to a public attorney (if one cannot afford one), a speedy trial, and an impartial jury.” The key word here is “impartial,” meaning fair and nondiscriminatory, but not in this case. When appearing in court, the defendant, plaintiff, and jury are required to recite a specific oath while their right hand is raised.…

He proves that Bob Ewell was responsible for the crime. He gave it his best shot that he could but the jury was so caught up on Tom Robinson’s skin color. Atticus was not surprised by the conviction but was mad at how racism in Maycomb county can overrule the Justice System. In court he talks about how the jury would buy into the assumption that all blacks are evil and immoral. He then states that this assumption is false and that all men are created equal no matter what skin color.…
