Atticus As A Parental Figure Essay

Readers can view Atticus as a positive parental figure for a variety of reasons. One example that proves this is that Atticus cares about his children. Although Atticus is not like every parent (that show their affection) Atticus shows his affection in his own ways. Some parents hug and kiss their children, but not Atticus he shows his affection to Jem by ruffling his hair. Another way that Atticus show his affection toward his children is by letting his kids run free and letting them be who they want them to be, although he also disciplines them in his own ways. This lesson was learned when Jem ripped the flowers from Mrs. DeBose garden, his consequence was that he needed to read to her. By being forced to spend time with her he learns to respect people that are much older than him and have much more life experience. All this proves that Atticus is a positive parental figure. Like any parental figure Atticus share valuable life lessons that will get his children thru life. The evidence clearly points to the fact that Atticus is a positive parental figure to his children. While looking at the facts every reader knows that Calpurnia is basically raising the children, but that is only because the children's mother is absent from their life's. In addition, Atticus is busy with his job and since the trial is just around the corner he is going to be a lot more busier and not around much. Every reader says that Atticus lets his children run wild and he lets Scout dress up and act as a boy and he does not scoul his kids, but just like any parent they are going to have flaws on raising their children and these are Atticus flaws. If you look past these flaws that Atticus has in raising his children he is actually a good parent that supports his children and provides them with the necessities
