Attention to Detail gives us, as Chiefs (and hopefully soon to be Chiefs) better levels of efficiency, increases safety and gives greater situational awareness.

It is bad leadership to put people in harms way simply due to certain risks and hazards not making it into your ORM process. Being able to beforehand put controls into place to eliminate, or at least overcome any hazards and risk during a training or mission evolution is part of being a good leader. In order to be able to do that, the leader needs to pay attention to detail in order to ensure that a small safety issue does not derail the whole operation.
All of that together give us as Chiefs and Chief Selects better situational awareness in order to plan, prepare and execute missions, tasks and to meet needs that we will face in our career and in our life.
The issue that many leaders fail to grasp is that attention to detail is a skill that needs to be cultivated in order to grow into an effective skill. Not everyone has had that opportunity to grow that skill thus they may not have the skill or the skill level that another has. This comes into knowing your people and helping them grow skills that they may lack. The lacking of the skill should not reflect poorly on the individual’s character. Yet, if leadership tries to help them grow that skill and they refuse, then that would.
