Joseph performance on the attention tasks during this testing exhibited variability. Joseph’s performance on visual attention task was below the threshold of statistical significance; however, it did demonstrate subtle difficulties in the area of detectability, inattention, response speed consistency. He also made slightly more anticipatory errors than others in his age group. There was slight reduction of speed noted during the later blocks. His response speed also showed slight decrease when the stimulus interval became longer. Hence, in low arousal condition he was relatively slower. This pattern was observed throughout testing, where Joseph performed worse on task he perceived as easy or less stimulating. On the contrary, Joseph’s performance on the auditory attention task was significant for inattention, impulsivity and difficulty in sustained attention. Joseph demonstrated high average lexical ability, and average semantic fluency ability. However, his phonemic fluency ability was in the mildly impaired range. On the WIAT-III his oral language skills, and reading skills were in the average range. However, written expression was below average. Sentence Composition was at 5.2 grade equivalent, Essay Composition was at the 6.4 grade equivalent, Oral Expression was at the 7.3 grade equivalent, and Reading Comprehension was at the 8.4 grade equivalent. Interestingly, Math Fluency: Multiplication was at the 8.2 grade equivalent, whereas, Mathematics Composite score was in the high average range. Joseph was noted to make multiple careless errors on the multiplication task. Phonological decoding was above average, while spelling was below average at 7.0 grade equivalent. His Essay composition was simplistic and immature for his age. Joseph’s weak written expressive language ability is suggestive of an underlying language

    This difficulty to hold information in his short term memory was also noted when given multistep directions. Trent was unable to retain multiple pieces of information long enough to complete a task. Additionally, it is likely that Trent struggles with comprehension of both spoken and written language as well as writing. This conclusion was drawn when he did poorly on sentence formulation and paragraph summarization/comprehension.
