Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is when a person has difficulties focusing their attention to enable them to be aware of things, people, and other optimal ways to their environment. (Swanson, 2003). This disorder was first discovered by Dr. Heinrich Hoffman in 1845. This disorder has been investigated nationwide, and needless to say, no one knows the cause and how this disorder came to be. Psychologists believe that there are some evidence link to the possibility that some risks factors such smoking, drinking alcohol during pregnancy might be a link to expose this disorder to children during pregnancy. Attention deficit hyperactivity has three primary symptoms, which includes, inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. This essay will elaborate on these three types of disorder symptoms that affects an individual ability to focus attention. The first symptoms associated with attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) is inattention. Children with inattention have problem with sights, and sounds. They have difficulties paying attention to detail, they have problems with reading instructions completely, and carefully. They lose things, as well as forgetting things like pencils or books. And, they have a hard time focusing, and they tend to have incomplete tasks on a regular basis. In order words, they jump from one thing to another, according to (Sternberg).
