Children develop physically and mentally at different paces. When a child is performing extremely poor for his or her age, then parents and teachers become concerned. They begin to wonder if the child is suffering from an intellectual disability, learning disability, developmental disorder, behavior & emotional disorder, etc. After an adult suspect that a child may be suffering from a disability, they can request an evaluation for the child and then see if the child is eligible to receive special education services. In some cases children are even given medication to help “control” their disabilities. Is the medication 100% effective in helping “control” the child 's disability? What happens when the child now becomes an adult? Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is often misunderstood and the behavior is often misinterpreted. As a result, the federal government has not identified ADHD as a discrete disability category. A child should show symptoms of ADHD before the age of 12 and must expresses a total of 6 symptoms from the inattention or hyperactivity & impulsive group. They also have to show these symptoms for at least six months in more than one environment. Although the cause of ADHD is unknown, this disorder is growing dramatically and has a major effect in one 's adulthood.
