Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, abbreviated as ADHD, is both a developmental and neurobiological condition that affects children and teenagers and continues to exhibit itself all the way into adulthood. ADHD is the most prevalent diagnosed mental disorder that occurs in children. In essence, children that suffer from ADHD are hyperactive, they are unable to control their impulses, and they tend to have difficulty with paying attention. In order for a child to be diagnosed with this attention deficit disorder the child must exhibit numerous, inattentive, impulsive, and hyperactive behaviors, for more than 6 months before they reach the age of seven (Daley and Birchwood 2009).
