What does ADHD look like?
ADHD was originally diagnosed within a group of boys. George Still described the individuals as having a “defect in moral control”. Males are more often diagnosed with ADHD than females, however the different types of ADHD play a large factor in the diagnosis.
There are three types of ADHD as described by the DSM. The first, ADHD-I, describes an inattentive individual. The second type is ADHD-HI, describes an individual that is hyperactive and impulsive. The third type of ADHD-C is a combination of type one and type two. Often females will have ADHD-I. They will expresses ADHD symptoms through being more withdrawn. You may find an individual with ADHD-I to be daydreaming or drawing during a class lesson. Therefor ADHD-I symptoms go easily unnoticed and furthermore underdiagnosed.
