The adults tried to contain and fix the situation, but it was not able to be fixed, the child was removed from the school and not allowed back. The defiance in this situation is clear, and when the mother came to pick the child up, the behavior also continued (“Oppositional Defiance Disorder,” 2015).
ODD has three levels including mild, moderate and severe, and they rate this depending on four settings the behavior occurs in. The four different settings are school, work, home and with peers. The mild rating is when the behavior only occurs in one of the settings, the moderate is two of the settings and severe is three or more of the settings. After witnessing signs and symptoms of ADHD and ODD, the child should see a certified professional, so that he or she can progress developmentally and emotionally. The first step to helping any child is to bring them to the doctor, and explain what is going on. The doctor will then perform a medical examination, an eye, and hearing exam. After this process is complete the doctor may have the parent or guardian take home a checklist of behaviors that parents and teachers to fill out in order to comprehensively gather as much history and information as possible. On the return visit the doctor will evaluate everything and diagnose the child. This is the process the mother and child in the scenario went through, and the process is similar or the same for others facing these circumstances.
