Attention Brabber Ideas

I really like the attention grabber ideas explained in the video. Although it is not my style to use noise to get my students attention I would like to take the risk and see how fun these would be to use. My approach to attention grabbers are typically visuals such as turning the lights off for a brief moment or I usually use my silence and eye contact until everyone is "ready". I teach them a routine on the first day of school that we need to respect each other when someone is speaking to have your full attention on the speaker looking at them, listening to what they are saying, and thinking about what they are saying. We will know you are "ready" when we see this happening and this technique has been a successful tool for setting the stage for classroom discussions as well. Students want to have their peer's full attention without being interrupted and this is where I reiterate the word respect for the speaker. I would like to try a noise maker approach and see how the class responds to it. I like the horn. It is a bit abrupt but it sounds fun. I also like the visual technique with the use of color cards to let the classroom know what an appropriate level of discussion is. …show more content…
I like the horn, it is a bit abrupt but it sounds fun and I think the class would have fun with it, including myself. I also like the visual technique with the use of color cards to let the classroom know what an appropriate level of discussion is. Students need this visual reminder to maintain the noise level within the classroom. I had a few students last year who would be in tears if the noise level was too loud for them and I would have to readjust the noise level

Hey everyone, I have chosen to reflect on Bill Rodgers’ Video ‘Dealing with distractions confidently’. I found the strategies Rodgers provided to be very direct and explicit. I believe the ideas and examples Rodgers put forth were respectful and were also time efficient. By stating the rules and calmly and confidently providing the students with a choice, it minimises the chance of the distraction escalating into a battle. Rodgers demonstrated excellent strategies that made me feel confidently manage situations without them escalating into an argument.…

For this small group lesson, there were six students from a variety of learning levels. I think the teachers are right at that point because it’s hard to take control of a classroom when almost all the students are just being noisy and getting up of their desk. The teacher should give tell those students they are getting bad grades for being annoying or take them out the class. At this point I don’t see it like the teacher is wrong, the students are. I heard some teachers hit the students or sometimes just because a student its being noisy the whole classroom have to pay for it too and it shouldn’t be like that.…

This tip is more important than many may…

Verbal and non-verbal communication allows a teacher to effectively communicate with students, maintain classroom management, address appropriate behaviors and expectations, and provide and safe and respectful classroom environment. Verbal communication consists of what a teacher or student says out loud.
