Attending Year-Round School

Should Florida attend year-round school? This question is of rising debate and there are many points to back each viewpoint up, but Florida shouldn’t attend year-round school because it is difficult to find childcare during breaks, and there is no concrete proof that students benefit positively from year-round school. Although students and teachers may be refreshed after the frequent breaks, they will lose a great deal of time reviewing and lose out on integral learning time. For kids trying to focus on learning, the breaks will be disruptive towards their efforts. One of the main reasons that year-round schooling was implemented in many places was to prevent summer slide, but kids will forget during breaks, and students and teachers will be in a constant state of review. As stated in a scholastic.com article, “It was really hard to get involved in school work becase as soon as you geared up, you had to gear back down to go on a 2 week vacation.” This shows that students will be less involved in their school work and will be preparing for a vacation, so there is even a possibility that students may be affected negatively. Florida shouldn’t switch to a year-round schedule. In conclusion, students shouldn’t attend year-round schooling because finding childcare may be difficult for parents and there is no evidence to support academic improvements with a new schedule, and although there may be more refreshed students, they will lose time reviewing and spend less time actually learning.
