Does Coming to College Mean Becoming Someone New? Whether one is just getting out of high school or going back to school, entering the college community is a foreign experience that brings forth a lot of questions on what it will be like. All students attending college for the first time have hopes of getting an education and a degree in the desired field of study.…
Starting with the people, already within my first few months here I have met so many incredible people. I see myself maintaining the relationships that I have built for many years to come. The relationships with my peers is just as important as the school work. Relationships help people grow and change, and that is a key component that I want to have with my college experience.…
How My Community College has Changed My Life Growing up everyone emphasized how important it was and still is to further education after high school. I always kept this in the back of my mind, but never knew how I would be able to afford college. Researching different schools I realized tuition would cost more than I had saved up. I’ve been saving for higher education for quite some time actually.…
I am entering my final semester as a senior and I am proud of the quality of education I have received. Studying agricultural business, I have had professors that literally write the books many students from other colleges study. With this level of quality, I am also surrounded by peers who are attracted to the same type of education. The college is a well-known program with a growing network of professionals in the industry. Another added benefit is the faculty and staff which are doing more than inside the classroom.…
Cronon’s first caveat mentions being liberally educated is misleading since it is not so much about accumulating certain number of credits or taking mandatory courses. College is not actually about taking certain amount of credits in order to receive diploma. I strongly believe that college experiences and knowledge gained from those experiences are definitely priceless.…
$1.2 trillion is the student debt of Americans as of 2014 according to the New York Daily News. How can college be worth it, if collectively Americans owe this much money in debt. Part of the problem is increased tuition, another problem is people who do not have the funds for college are spending irresponsibly. Is college worth it; it most certainly is. College provides opportunities that would be otherwise impossible.…
Based on the answers we received, we were able to get a better idea of what is going well and what is not going well in our class. We are used to having our own opinions about how a particular activity or class may have gone, but we found it really helpful to get a clearer image through student feedback. While some of the responses are what we anticipated, some were a bit eye-opening. For example, while we expected that students might want to see less lecture-style facilitation taking place during class, we were surprised to learn that an overwhelming majority of our class would like to see fewer icebreakers. From our perspective, we thought the icebreakers seemed to go quite well and it appeared that students were enjoying the chosen activities.…
My path to Augustana University all started from a fellow friend introducing the University while he was already here. My friend, Levi Jansen, was one of my closest friends in high school and is still a very close friend to this day. Levi and I hung out every once in awhile, but every time we were together he would always bring up college. From these little talks, I was introduced to one of the best decisions of my life. My College decision was a long and stressful, especially the game day visit to the campus visits.…
The thought of attending college was so vague in my mind that I felt like I will never be a college student. All of these were changed my senior year when I met Ms. Jasmine Rainey, a college advisor at my old high school. Ms. Jasmine changed my life, and she had a direct…
First of all, College was terrifying. No one in my family has even graduated High School, one day you’re graduating college, next day you’re choosing a career based on no information whatsoever. Going to college had been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. I have always been the type of person that wanted to do something for others. Whether its making an impact on a person’s life or making a child smile, just knowing I’ve made a difference in the world and that I can help someone is something that makes me feel good about myself. That’s where social work comes into play. I’ve always seen social work as the job where I can help others. It doesn’t matter who you’re helping an adult or child, social workers make a tremendous impact on people’s lives and it is something that holds my interest about the field.…
All through high school it was my dream to go to a four year university with a few of my closest friends. We would have visions of our new, grown up lives together. Full of a new found freedom from our parents and decorating our dorm room to look like one giant Pier 1 advert; needless to say we couldn’t wait. Everything was planned to a T, you name it we had a plan for it. During the middle of my junior year, though, I started to question if a four year was the right path for me to take.…
My first semester of college has been an intersting learning experience. It has been full of ups and downs. I’ve learned a lot since being in college, mostly how to take charge of my life and get my priorities straight. I learned that being successful in college depends on how you prioritize your work and how serious you take it. At first my priorities weren 't where they were supposed to be, and I realized my grades were going to suffer if I did not change.…
