The Importance Of The Spanish Club

The group in which I decided to attend was the Spanish Club meeting. The Spanish Club meets on Thursday at 3:30pm-4:30pm in Morgan 303. I happen to be conversing with a friend and I brought up the topic of the assignment. I mentioned to her that I did not know of any groups that I could actually attend that I do not identify in. I knew that the common group that everyone was going to was Alcoholic Anonymous and I wanted something different because I’m sure my professor would want us to branch out. Also the club provided the space for Spanish majors and minors to come together and practice the Spanish language. Even those that did not major in Spanish, still had the opportunity to come to the meetings and practice their bi-lingual language with other students, so they would not lose the skills of speaking another language. The Spanish Club is a place for students of all levels of Spanish to come learn and interact with fellow students. The club meeting was about six students but the president did say that its typically more students but due to homecoming, a lot of people could not attend. The positions of the advisor Margarita Obregón was for her to watch over the group, and even while she was interacting with everyone, her main focus was to make sure the executive board stayed on track with the meeting. As in for the president Luis, which had a higher status over the group because he for one spoke fluent Spanish and everyone seem to look up to him for help on their languages. As for the member they position was to just follow the orders of the president. Their status I would say was almost as high or if not equal to the president because they all could speak Spanish to each other and have consistent dialogue with each other. As far as the norms of the group, it was clear that when they come to the meeting, the president always push for them to speak Spanish the entire meeting instead of English to enhance their fluency of the language. It was also normal for the people from the group to be from different parts of the country. There were students from Ecuador, El Sabo, Mexico, Argentine, Bolivia, and Cuba. The diversity of the group was amazing because even though they share the same common language, there cultures are so different and they could learn so much more from one
