December 7, 1941 at the United States Naval Base near Honolulu Hawaii Japanese planes attacked killing over 2,300 Americans. During the bombing the American battleship U.S.S. Arizona was destroyed and the U.S.S. Oklahoma was capsized. Twelve other ships had either sunk or gotten beached, nine other ships had been damaged. This attack took the whole country by immense surprise.
One-hundred sixty air crafts were destroyed leaving another one-hundred fifty in terrible condition. A naval officer recognized as the Commander-in-Chief Pacific had sent a message to all major navy commands and fleet units saying “AIR RAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NOT A DRILL”. Popular radio stations were interrupted to bring this terrible news to the public. People
