The Atomic Bomb: Manhattan Project The Atomic Bomb: Manhattan Project was an experiment that changed the world because it ended World War II and gave birth to nuclear energy, which helped influence the way that the world functions today. The Manhattan Project was a research and development project that produced the first nuclear weapons during World War II. The Manhattan project was the invention of the first two nuclear bombs, Fat Man and Little Boy. These two bombs were dropped on Japanese islands to end World War II. The Radiation Detectives project identifies local sites in New York City that were involved in the project that developed the atomic bomb, which is why the development of the top-secret atom bomb was called The Manhattan Project (Hibakush).

Math, Statistics, and Evolution of the Atomic Bomb The following formula is responsible for the immense power of the Atomic Bomb, E=MC2. The equation was created by a German-born physicist Albert Einstein, whos theory of special relativity showed that the increased relativistic mass (M) of a body comes from the energy of motion of the body—that is, its kinetic energy (E)—divided by the speed of light squared (C2). This equation expresses the fact that mass and energy are the same physical entity and can be changed into each other (Perkowitz). The amount of work and money that was put into the atomic bomb was huge. The United States spent over two billion dollars on the Manhattan Project (today…
