Indus Valley Civilization Background The Indus Valley civilization started in about 2600b.c. and ended in about 1700b.c (Indus Valley). The Indus Valley was located where Pakistan and northwest India stand today (Violatti). The Indus Valley civilization developed along the banks of the Indus River because river valleys have good land for growing crops.
The Indus River and the Ghaggra-Hakra River were both located in the Indus Valley (Indus Valley Civilization). Workers had many different jobs such as making stone Querns, spinning cotton and wool, and making clothes and bags. The workers in the city often make beads, fishing nets and pots and pans. The Indus valley lived by trade. The farmers would bring food into the city’s to trade and also people traded beads, pots, pans and other goods. Much of the merchandise was brought to other cities to trade and people also traded gold, silver and colored gems such as turquoise and lapis.
