Extravagant wealth, obsessive passion, faith, sacrifice, and genuine love are all prominent themes in “The Story of Jullanar of the Sea” from The Thousand and One Nights. The time period and setting of the story takes place in the lands of ancient Persia. King Shah-Zeman is current ruler of Khurasan, and indulges in great wealth living in his successful dwelling with his beautiful concubines. Be that as it may, the King is considerably troubled because none of his concubines has given him any children. He is particularly yearning for a male child who can inherit the throne that was passed on from his father, grandfather, and so forth.…
In Revolutions in the Atlantic World: A Comparative History, Wim Klooster examined and compared four Atlantic World Revolutions: The American Revolution, The French Revolution, The Haitian Revolution, and the Spanish Revolutions. Klooster provided an introduction to global events leading up to the eighteenth and early nineteenth century Atlantic World revolutions. He then devoted a chapter to each revolution, and in the fifth and final chapter conducted a comparative discussion. Klooster approached the studies with specific ideas in mind; 1) International context was mandatory, 2)…
Touching the Breeze: Sue Goyette’s Ocean “Objects are the way things appear to a subject – that is with a name, an identity, a gestalt or a stereotypical template. … Things, on the other hand, … [signal] the moment when the Object becomes the Other, when the sardine can look back, when the mute idol speaks, when the subject experiences the object as uncanny and feels the need for what Foucault calls ‘a metaphysics of the object, or, more exactly, a metaphysics of that never objectifiable depth from which objects rise up to our superficial knowledge.’” (W. J. T. Mitchel in Jane Bennett’s Vibrant Matter (2010), 2)…
2. Why are the ocean salty, but not the streams, rivers, and lakes? As water flows in rivers, it picks up small amounts of mineral salts from the rocks andsoil of the river beds. This very-slightly salty water flows into the oceans and seas.…

Japan construction firm Shimizu Corp. proposed the Ocean Spiral project aka underwater city. The energy will be generated by the seabed. They are planning to have a deep sea submarine port and factory that converts carbon dioxide to methane. This underwater city will be put off the Japanese coast and will stretch to 2.8 miles in depth. Their plan is to divide this into three sections, the first section is the city.…

During the 18th century The Atlantic World was the major area for trading, not just of goods but for the trading of peoples, cultures, diseases, and religions. The coasts of Eastern Africa, North and South America, and Europe made up the Atlantic World, and many people of that time period got a chance to be apart of the interactions between those empires. Yet, none of them with so interesting of a story as African-born healer Domingos Alvares. He moved between West Africa, Brazil, and Portugal; taking along with him his open mind, charisma, and deep spirituality. Although uprooted against his will, Domingos played a huge role in the Atlantic World through his use of religious pluralism, healing practices, and strong sense of social kindred…
Ocean Beach may be known for its stellar surfing and savory foods, but it is also known for its historic buildings and architecture. One notable building is the Kraft Building which was built in 1927 for medical purposes. It was owned by Fred Kraft and housed a drug store that contained a soda fountain downstairs. It was also occupied by the historic Seaside grill, which was claimed to have the best pies in town. Rumor also has it that Charles Lindbergh was a common patron here.…
Before analyzing any situation, one must begin at the very root of the cause in hopes understanding it better. Sea World is surprisingly not the first establishment that decided to economically strive through the exploitation of animals. Orca whales that were captured and delivered to their lifelong home in SeaWorld amusement parks went from swimming up to 100 miles a day to being put in tanks that are much too small for them. The average size of an orca whale can reach up to 20-26 feet long and can weigh as much as 22,000 pounds. The size of the orca whales in comparison to the tanks they live in at SeaWorld are said to be in comparison to a “bathtub.”…
On the coast of the Jersey shore, lies a peaceful coastal city, Ocean City. Ocean city is a safe, dry island in southern New Jersey. The city becomes heavily populous with college students and suburban families as the climate turns from frigid to scorching. Ocean City is where many of my summer days were spent witnessing the gorgeous beach, roaming the board walk, dipping ice cream, and enjoying the day with close friends and family.…
The history of the early Atlantic world is one of interactions between very different societies: Western Europeans, Africans, and Indigenous Americans. Prior to the dawn of exploration, each of these societies functioned in a largely independent state of the others, and thus developed strikingly different forms of culture, language, religion, and customs. Due to these broad differences, exploration and colonization often led to conflict, and sometimes the complete annihilation of a societal group. Conflict was driven primarily by misunderstanding, while cooperation was driven by cultural curiosity which later evolved into real interest in learning more about how others live. Even if interest was driven by the novelty of purchasing goods from…
The ocean also absorbs nitrogen from the atmosphere. Nitrogen nutrients are also water-soluble which makes them a limiting factor as it dissolves quickly and therefore is not easily accessible to…
The deep ocean is considered an extreme environment because of the low temperatures, high pressures, lack of oxygen and no sunlight. These conditions have caused the organisms which live there to evolve, often through unusual and unique adaptations, so they can live, reproduce, and thrive. An extreme environment is a place where humans normally do not live or could die there. There are organisms caused extremophiles that live there and are so well-adapted that they readily grow and multiply in order to survive. An example of an extremophile which lives in the deep ocean is the Anglerfish.…
