Ultimately, although contending with academic integrity and complying with NCAA rules and regulations is tedious, working in this field is fulfilling due to the relationships built and the desire of student-athletes to pursue academic and athletic success. First off, the professional being interviewed has a unique job title, worked in the industry for some time, and mentions a unique set of skills and training required for the role. John Bailey is a Student-Athlete Academic Coordinator at Grand Canyon University (GCU). He has worked in intercollegiate athletics for a year and a half, but before then he worked in professional sports for three years. To receive this position, Bailey mentions that a professional must pursue higher education and have skills. For example, a Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or psychology is required. But a Master’s degree is preferred.
