Athletic Therapist and Exercise Physiologists must abide to a different set of rules and regulations that are set in place to oversee the area of practice. Each profession has a scope of practice that is different and therefore individuals in both professions are expected to conduct themselves differently. Athletic therapists are to uphold the name of the profession by treating other colleges with respect and honesty5. Professional Exercise Physiologists are expected to support the different interventions used for health and fitness, prevention and rehabilitation through research. Athletic Therapists must provide excellent knowledge and technique in their execution but they don’t have to provide scientific evidence behind the technique; at times they must act fast and know their limitations when providing health services to others. Athletic Therapists scope of practice focuses on in depth knowledge of, “education and training in the areas of the human musculoskeletal system, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and basic emergency care” 8. There are five domains that make up the scope of practice which include the following, prevention, assessment, intervention, practice management and professional responsibility. Certified Exercise Physiologists’ scope of practice consists of; performing assessments, prescribing conditioning exercise, exercise supervision, counselling and health lifestyle education 4.
