Athletes who use performance enhancing drugs during their time in professional sports should not be allowed in their respective sport’s Hall of Fame because they did not earn that right by sheer talent but instead cheated to give themselves an unfair advantage. These men and women are supposed to be the role models for today 's youth athletes. But these days, it’s sad because if an athlete has a remarkable year, or a remarkable night or even an amazing hit, most people will wonder if they had that remarkable milestone because they are taking steroids or performance enhancing drugs.
If David Ortiz hits 100 home runs next year as compared to his 37 home runs in 2015, I’d like to think that it’s because he practiced harder and …show more content…
Even more troubling, 2.5 percent of kids in eighth grade report they 've tried steroids” (Hewitt). I am a 12th grade boy and my brother is in the 8th grade and I can’t believe that kids are age are shooting needles into their bodies. What is even more scary are the other side-effects that can come from using steroids. A boy in Texas, Taylor Hooton, began using performance enhancing drugs because a coach told him he needed to get bigger. He probably thought “why not? the pros are doing it”. But when he started to get depressed and mentioned that he wanted to hurt himself, his parents got him to the doctors. But nothing helped and one day he killed himself in his room. But these things are not what kids see or hear about.. Kids see monster hits on the baseball field, the massive weights being lifted in the ring and the amazing cycle feats on the most difficult of courses. They see the athletes being lifted up on their teammates shoulders and they see and hear all the fans shouting their names. They buy jersey’s with those players names on the back. What kid wouldn’t want people wearing their jersey. I know I would love to see someone wearing a basketball jersey with “Brown” on the back some day. Kids want to be like them and they don’t think of the side-effects. Unfortunately, some athletes, professional and amateur feel they have to make a choice to participate naturally or to use performance enhancing drugs to keep up with the athletes using performance enhancing drugs. The choice is not simple for them. They can either use drugs so they are on the same level as the cheaters, or they can do it the right way without drugs and know that they are going to be slower and weaker. The even harder part is that some of these guys doing it the right
