Roman Catholic has won two PCL championships and two State Championships in basketball. This big win gives Roman Catholic High School a great reputation, but the question of whether this activity is fulfilling their student expectations is brought up. The 2011 Jackson Free Press article, “College Sports Vs. Academics” written by Bryan Flynn explains, "Some say sports provide no academic benefit, and others say there is a slight benefit." I believe that it does not sound like there is a large gain from athletics. I have witnessed numerous accounts of unjust actions that have occurred with no penalty. The basketball players at Roman Catholic were treated like saints, and the students always come first. This way if one person fails it will affect the others in the group as well. This may seem a bit harsh but in a lot of ways academics are like sports. A quarterback without his receivers is useless. I would like my class to learn what its like to be on a team that is not sports related. Working together as one to accomplish a greater goal is what I believe a team is. We all need help at some point in our lives and in my class that is what the teams will be there
