Many people think performance enhancers create only positive outcomes for an athlete, but do they? Everyone has heard of professional athletes using steroids, but for high school athletes, it is hard for them to get acquire steroids. Since they can’t get steroids, they turn to other performance enhancers, such as Adderall, which gives athletes higher energy levels than they would have without them. Another drug used by athletes is Hydrocodone, which is used to take the pain away. They use this to limit the pain they endure during the event they participate in. The use of these drugs can affect them differently then they are supposed to, if the uses of the drugs are abused. Many high school athletes often ponder the idea of using the drugs to create a prominent advantage over competitors. Once again, there are side affects alongside using drugs. Unlike professional athletes, high school athletes don’t receive as great of a punishment as professionals, but there are health side affects that occur when using them. Many health risks such as, blood-clotting issues, high blood pressure and cholesterol, liver problems, mood swings, and reduced sperm production may fall into place as people mature and grow older after using stimulants. One of the main uses of performance enhancer in high school is Hydrocodone, which allows them to endure a greater bulk of soreness. Another common use in high school is Adderall, which is used for energy enhancement during a sporting event for the edge with much better effectiveness. Although performance enhancers may possibly a favorable form of gaining the desired “edge”, the performance in their health in the future could manage to plummet rapidly and much sooner than they desire.
