Athletes Should Get Paid

Actors and Actresses, singers and athletes are very entertaining, but I don't think they should be paid higher than doctors and surgeons.

I would consider myself a pretty big movie fan, if there is a new release I want to see, I am the first in line at the theatre. There are TV shows that everyone watches religiously, and movie stars and actors that we adore. Acting and being able to bring a character to life is a talent, but is it more of a talent than performing life saving operations like surgeons do? I don't think so.

In no way am I saying that being a celebrity is easy, and definitely athletes and singers are very talented and skilled at what they do. I also think its great that many of them use their name to help fund charities or

According to The Huffington Post, Johnny Depp has been the most overpaid actor for two years in a row. In early 2016, he made 5th spot on the highest paid actors list in Forbes Magazine, with an estimated yearly earning of 48 Million, despite a few flops at the box office. Have you heard of any doctors or surgeons making that much per year?

In addition, actors get paid a royalty each time their film is shown or bought. So they continue to get paid even after they complete a project. They earn even more from public appearances, DVD sales and endorsement deals. Although Doctors and surgeons make a significant income, they don't continue to get paid every day that their patient lives.

Doctors and surgeons in Canada earn anywhere form $271, 000 - $446, 000 per year based on their specialization and where they live, but entertainment professionals earn a much higher income than any other profession.

For the most part, actors and actresses, singers and athletes are discovered based on their talents, but people who want to become doctors and surgeons spend thousands on schooling and are usually in debt for several years trying to pay for

The first reason why I think college athletes should get paid is because when they show up for practice they play hard to get better and win games and I think that If they get paid it will help them pay for the college there going to and make them want to keep playing the sport.…

Universities across the country make millions of dollars every year from college athletics. However, student-athletes receive nothing except for college tuition and room/board in return, even though they are the foundation of the entire industry. This one-sided trend must not continue, for college athletes often struggle to pay for transportation, clothing, a place to live and food to eat, while the universities reap the rewards from their labors. College athletes should be paid money in some form as compensation for universities using their likeness and profiting from their athletic exploits. The first reason college athletes should be paid is that while playing sports for their schools they risk injury, and they lose time for studying which can affect their learning.…

Sally Jenkins brought up that college athletes should be paid for the work they do on the field/court/track or at least be able to major in the sport they play. She starts off by listing the different courses and classes an athlete could take to succeed in such a degree. Courses such as “Introduction to Sports Law”, “The Origin of Sports”, and “Ethic Rules”. These courses would not only allow the student athletes to learn more about the sport they are interested in and making the college money by, but also help them pursue a career in that sport. Jenkins compares athletes to the students in the Yale theater program.…

According to Chittom, Lynn-nore (Editor and Blogger), “Celebrities have a long history of using their fame to support their favorite causes and charities. During the 1980’s the overnight success of Band Aids and USA for Africa raised significant funds for famine relief in Africa and thrust activism by celebrity musicians into the spotlight” (Point: Celebrities use their fame for the greater good). This statement is right to a certain point as some celebs do raise awareness on some certain issues and promote charity event and even sometimes even build charitable associations, but it most of the time, they do this for more recognition and fame. According to Belanger, Craig (Writer and Sociologist), “Celebrities often endorse causes that are receiving public attention… which takes focus away from issues that affect many more people….celebrities are often ineffective spokesperson for causes because of their lifestyle either keep them from being committed or result in negative publicity” (Counterpoint: Celebrity Activism is a distraction). This is very understandable as most celebrity do not fully understand the issues they advocate for because of its complexity, so we see celebrities advocate for global warming when the topic is hot in the media, then after some month or day, drop the issue and more to another…

“People complain that professional athletes get paid too much, but what they don’t understand is that we need a lot of money because we spend a lot of money,” is a quote from Patrick Ewing, a famous NBA star. His quote directly shows that athletes are being paid too much. For example athletes get paid a great deal more than the working class. They also get paid way more than surgeons, who save lives. There are also orphanages who barely make enough money to keep the kids safe.…

For the example of a firefighter and a police officer, they should be paid as much as footballers should be, because they are true honorary heros. Police officers are paid to protect and serve, and firefighters are paid to put out fires. Both of those things are very extraordinary to do. For footballers, they are just paid to kick a soccer ball into a goal which is way too much money as a fact. People that have jobs that save many lives almost to risk their own lives should be paid as much as footballers, but not overpaid.…
