Should Professional Athletes Be Paid

A high-payed doctor earns 500,000 dollars per year after saving countless lives. An astronaut ranked in the highest level of NASA earns 107,000 dollars. A lawyer who has been defending people’s lives for 11 years earns up to 170,000 dollars. But how much money does a professional athlete make? Lebron James, basketball player on the Cleveland Cavaliers, earned 40,000,000 dollars just last year. Has Lebron James saved anyone’s life? Has he made an outstanding contribution to science? Has Lebron James sacrificed his life to defend others? The answer is no. Professional athletes are extremely over-paid for doing absolutely nothing, while others barely suffice eating the amount of food human-beings are supposed to consume. Basically, unless you’re preparing to be the next Stephen Curry, you’re bound to barely make ends meet in the economy. Basketball players aren’t the only athletes earning too much dough though. Football players, baseball players, even hockey players earn enough money to have a pool full of sharks in their backyard. This is already ridiculous as it is, but the fact that some athletes are still rude and disrespectful makes it ten times worse. Some like to use the counter-argument during this topic that it’s hard for athletes, because everyone’s watching them. The thing is though, most athletes don’t even try to be role models. You’d think that someone who got to swing a bat for a living and still make loads of money would be nicer to everyone around them. You’d be wrong though. Athletes don’t deserve the money, but with the attitudes that some have, they shouldn’t earn any money at all. For example, Kobe Bryant. The famous basketball player filed a law suit on his own mother for trying to clean some of his stuff out of her garage. What a

Don’t get me wrong, athletes earn a spectacular amount of money, but just because they earn more than the average accountant or what ever your career may be, doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the money they are earning. And they are not overpaid. All athletes have times of the year where they do not get paid at all. It is difficult to find a job during the off-seasons of sports. Also, that makes it hard to be able to pay bills and taxes; in fact I think they should be paid more.…

According to some, getting a full ride to a college isn’t enough. Many think that college athletes should be getting paid because their sport, is their job. Others think that getting a full ride to go to school is enough and college athletes get enough benefits as it is. College athletes may take an educational decline to support their team but these athletes have many tools for success that everyday students are having to pay for. College athletes shouldn’t be paid to play sports because many are already getting scholarships to help out the financial aspect of college, recruiting athletes would be even more based on having a powerhouse, wealthy school than it already is, and these athletes are given an opportunity to become professional athletes,…

Actors and Actresses, singers and athletes are very entertaining, but I don't think they should be paid higher than doctors and surgeons. I would consider myself a pretty big movie fan, if there is a new release I want to see, I am the first in line at the theatre. There are TV shows that everyone watches religiously, and movie stars and actors that we adore. Acting and being able to bring a character to life is a talent, but is it more of a talent than performing life saving operations like surgeons do? I don't think so.…

Do you think someone should get millions of dollars for hitting a ball in a hole? Well many golfers do along with other professional athletes. An athlete’s pay should be lowered because families could help raise the next generation better, people who save other people’s lives make less, and athletes are still able to get jobs after they finish their athletic career. To begin with, family households make much less than professional athletes.…

There are many hard working people in the world that make less than eighty-thousand dollars a year. Yet, an artist who releases an album for the first time in their life makes millions. I guess it is safe to say I disagree with the fact that someone that is a professional athlete that sits on the bench makes more than a woman who has been working for 30+ years. It is really not fair when you think about it in detail. Especially, when there are wonderful, hardworking people who make below minimum wage.…

“People complain that professional athletes get paid too much, but what they don’t understand is that we need a lot of money because we spend a lot of money,” is a quote from Patrick Ewing, a famous NBA star. His quote directly shows that athletes are being paid too much. For example athletes get paid a great deal more than the working class. They also get paid way more than surgeons, who save lives. There are also orphanages who barely make enough money to keep the kids safe.…
