When kids reach a certain age to play sports or any type of competitive activity, they earn trophies, medals, and ribbons. But kids that have amazing top performances are not acknowledged anymore because many programs have begun awarding all athletes even though some of those athletes aren’t top performers. Giving out trophies, athletes good or bad, it can carry out wrong representations of hard work. In this reflection, I will discussing whether or not everyone should be awarded with a trophy. When people are awarded with a trophy, people have a different point of views on what the trophy represents. For example, there are participation trophies, so young people recognize that they’ve learned new skills and feel like they are something more than just a player. According to the article, “Trophies are a great way to encourage kids who aren’t gifted athletes to keep playing”(Perez 22). Athletes that aren’t gifted will still have the encouragement to keep playing. When they are awarded with the trophy they feel important to the team and better about …show more content…
Young people need to learn that it's alright to make mistakes, that’s how you learn to grow and be motivated to work harder next time. Adults think otherwise, because they are over praising the children think they should be awarded for everything. As a result kids are becoming very confident and cocky within themselves, which defeats the meaning of earning a trophy. It often said, “It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s how you play the game”(Merryman 23). Win or lose, the child will know they won with the effort and hard work they put into the game. If this is correct then why don’t we give the most improved the trophy or the athletic player of the game the trophy? It is because we don’t open our eyes to reward someone that worked hard to achieve the trophy and know that they earned
