Athlete's Pay

Decent Essays
Do you think someone should get millions of dollars for hitting a ball in a hole? Well many golfers do along with other professional athletes. An athlete’s pay should be lowered because families could help raise the next generation better, people who save other people’s lives make less, and athletes are still able to get jobs after they finish their athletic career.
To begin with, family households make much less than professional athletes. In the first article it is stated that “Players all tend to be in the $2 million to $5 million a year range. Compare that with the average income for a family: $54,000.” If athletes pay was cut and given to family households the next generation of Americans being raised right now would have much better lives

Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. As Rebecca Zissou states in the article, “Fair Play: Should College Athletes Get Paid?” "Many top players receive tuition, books, tutoring, housing, meals, clothing, elite coaching, medical care, travel expenses, and career counseling. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

College Athletes Pay Day According to Sporting News, a report concludes that, “86% of college athletes live in poverty.” If these college kids were getting paid any money at all, that would lower the poverty level a lot because most of the kids in poverty are the stars of their college teams. College athletes should get paid because people are selling their jerseys’ with the college athletes name on the back of it, and the kids are filling up the stadium with all the fans. College athletes should get paid because the jerseys, with their name on it is being sold.…

Pay for Play? Dave Anderson, Laura Freedman, Lee Goldman, and Peter Goplereus III have all written articles on whether or not the NCAA should pay their student athletes. Their articles, “Top 10 Reasons College Athletes Should be Paid”, “Pay or Play”, “Should College Athletes Be Paid”, and “No Control Over Their Rights” all provide many reasons as to why student athletes deserve payment. The NCAA is in the wrong for accepting “free labor” from these athletes. Although many student athletes are on scholarships, often times it is not enough, so they deserve fair compensation.…

There are people that argue that college athletes are paid enough by the scholarships that they acquire to the big Universities. They are worth according to Jeffery Dorfman author of “Pay College Athletes? They’re Already Paid Up To $125,000 Per Year” he argues that “a student athlete at a major conference school on full scholarship is likely receiving a package of education, room, board, and coaching/training worth between $50,000 and $125,000 per year depending on their sport and whether they attend a public or private university” (Dorfman). People don’t believe that there should be money going into these athletes pockets because they are on scholarships and that should be enough.…

Professional athletes, especially NBA players are harshly criticized of their high salaries because many people feel what they do does not amount to what they are being paid. They feel NBA players aren’t contributing enough to be paid on that magnitude. Many people can’t stand that NBA players are paid millions while teachers, doctors, lawyers, or other professions are making nothing compared to them. Many strongly feel that NBA players do nothing more than play a ball game. However, there is a lot that NBA players do that people are unaware of.…

I am personally a collegiate athlete and knows what an athlete goes through. Players shouldn’t get paid millions of dollars like professional athletes, because why would players go on to try and play professionally. On the contrary they should deserve some type of revenue whether it's for clothes shopping, take someone out on a date, gas money, etc. For example that’s the same thing as me asking my friend to do something for me and he does all the work while I sit back and relax.…

Some people think that a free education is a big enough payment for the athletes because college costs a lot of money and a college degree is very important in life. On the other hand, some people believe that athletes should be paid extra money because of how much money is made from college sports because of them. Many people think it’s absolutely necessary to pay college athletes because the current scholarship does not completely cover the full cost of living in college and they’re being used to make a lot of money. Some players have to take the risk and leave college early in hopes of getting money to support themselves or…

Players bring in a lot of money for colleges, the college even sells their jersey with their name on it and they still get nothing. Many players have argued the NCAA about that and they have done nothing about it. According to the movie “Fab Five” (2011) the players were the top in the country and they were a championship team and while they were working their butts off they were poor and one of the saw their jersey in a store window and wonder why is he not getting paid for using his name, and they are making money but he is struggling to find their next meal. So in Dismissal college athletes should be paid because the colleges make money off of them and they get nothing. And nowadays colleges that have sports stars make way more money that regular colleges like for Oklahoma State and Buddy Hield they are in March Madness and the college is projected to make over 100 million dollars…

They are growing up and need to learn how to live on their own without mom and dad sending them money all the time, there is not time for a job. While the college coaches are making six figures, these athletes are lucky to even get 100 dollars. Many argue that Paying these athletes would lose competitiveness of the sports but they are wrong because, many professional athletes get paid by their performance, so it’s a competition to be the best you can be so you can get paid at the most possible. The money that these athletes make for their school, doesn’t even contribute to their universities at all because if they did their would be more academic opportunities in america. I think it is important to pay these athletes because, many don’t have wealthy parents that can support them while they are in college, these athletes have no one to rely on.…
