I am affected by the dissonance every day in our society. The values and structures that are present today in American society oppress and alienate me when I identify that I am an atheist. In the United States the majority of people identify as Christian, I am oppressed in our society there is ban in some states in the United States that ban atheist from holding public office. I am alienated in many ways in our society. People questioned me on why I am an Atheist. People think of me as a lesser person and as a devil worshiper. People accuse me of losing my way, myself, and God. They tell me that God will find me again, and he will forgive me. I have had friends that I have disclosed that I was an atheist to and when they have told their family members that I was an atheist they immediately told them that they should stop being my friend. Many people will try to convince me to go to church with them and that they can change my mind. I have had family, friends, strangers, and classmates tell me that I will be going to hell for not believing in God. My parents raised me to believe in what I wanted to believe in and to be my own person. But, my mom does not accept me for being an atheist she tells me all the time that I will go to hell and that she will pray for me. I also would never disclose that I was an atheist to my father because he would disown me. The rest of my family is very religious and they
