A poet and activist. Who wrote this poem in response to the violence happening around the United states of America. Herrera speaks out about the injustice to the people who are being killed for no apparent reason in our society. In the text, “Let us celebrate the lives of all, As we reflect and pray and meditate on their brutal deaths”(Herrera 1). He describes the poem as “to celebrate,” A word that brings to mind is to honor an occasion or event. The author is talking about how he is honoring those who speak for themselves and to those who sacrifice their lives in the protests that is happening. Herrera’s words in the poem are described as “reflect” and “meditate” both words that would seemingly give a different meaning to “celebrate.” Reflect and meditate are more peaceful and to look back.
