Astronomy is a very interesting career. It is the branch of science that deals with outer space objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole. They use data on movements, compositions, and other properties of space objects and phenomena. I chose this career because astronomers make a good bit of money, and also because I enjoy reading and learning about outer space. They increase our understanding of the universe, and our place in it. There are a number of skills needed for an astronomer. They need to be good at physics and math. Astronomers work a lot with computers so good computer and programming skills are helpful. Some build their own instruments that they use to work with, so those people who do so need to learn about electronics, materials fabrication, and machining. Many astronomers teach as they learn so they need to have good teaching skills. In order for them to write grant proposals to get money and telescope time for their projects they need to be good at writing. Good communication is helpful as well.
