Deep Impact Film Review

Deep Impact is about a comet that is hurtling towards Earth and could possibly destroy the earth. The U.S. government tries to keep it a secret until a reporter by the name of Jenny Lerner discovers what is really happening forcing the president to announce his plan. An astronaut Spurgeon “Fish” Tanner and his team will land on the comet and plant explosives, hopefully changing the route of the deadly comet. The team plans to plant nuclear bombs on the comet to deter its course. When the bombs detonate, the larger pieces miss Earth while the smaller piece lands in the sea creating a tsunami. In preparation of the impact, limited numbers of civilians are given shelter in special bunkers. The people are selected by lottery together with 200 000 scientists, doctors, soldiers and other officials.

When it hits the ocean, it produces a huge tsunami with waves around 400 meters high. The tsunami floods coastal areas including New York City and Washington D.C. Comets are made up of dust and ice, they come from very far out in the solar system. (1) Sometimes a comet may hit Earth and land in the ocean causing a tsunami but is rare. In this scene, a comet strikes the ocean creating a large tsunami. The size of the tsunami is realistic based on the size of the comet.
Comets come from a far region of the solar system known as the Oort cloud (1). When comets approach the sun, they heat up and release particles from their surface, the particles are sent into the air from the wind from the sun, this makes the comet tail. Comets have two very different tails, one is made up of from gas and the other of dust. The Oort cloud consists of trillions of leftover comets from when our solar system was

Some movies have jaw-dropping special effects, some movies have Oscar winning actors, and some movies have heartwarming stories. Thinking about the movies I have seen in the past, I realize that although special effects become quickly dated and actors constantly change, a great story never gets old. One movie from 1982 proved to the world that it had a story worth telling more than just once. Annie tells the timeless story of an orphan winning over the brusque, wealthy character Daddy Warbucks. Annie, the spirited, optimistic orphan, becomes something that Daddy Warbucks realizes he does not want to live without.…

Already the encounter with the alien is hostile, and with the waging war between the two species, this is considered other-as-enemy, or varelse. For example, Malmgren states that “…sentient beings…have been imprinted with an overriding directive-the will to survive (19). As varelse would have it, the total war between the two species will end with the result of the annihilation of one or the other species. As a result of this, Ender eventually destroys the aliens and is seen as victorious.…

Among nature's most powerful forces of destruction, these waves are called tsunamis. The Japanese term means "harbour waves". Tsunamis are a series of large ocean waves of extremely long wavelength and a period which is suddenly displaced on a massive scale by an underwater disturbance such as an earthquake occurring on or near the seabed or a volcanic eruption. Tsunamis hit the coastal regions approximately 10 times each year.…
