Every year, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America declares May to be “National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month.” Spring is a peak season for asthma and allergy sufferers, lending it to be the perfect time to educate different communities about these diseases. There are two major types of asthma, occupational and childhood. Occupational asthma is caused by inhaling fumes, gases, dust, or other potentially harmful substances. Childhood asthma is usually developed before the age of five. Asthma affects a total of 24 million Americans, and 6.3 million children under the age of 18 suffer from asthma.
