While you may not be able to control the fact that your child has asthma, you can take actions to help prevent your child from experiencing episodes of asthma (asthma attacks). These actions include:
Creating a written plan for managing and treating asthma attacks (asthma action plan).
Having your child avoid things that can irritate the airways or make asthma symptoms worse (asthma triggers).
Making sure your child takes medicines as directed.
Keeping track of how well your child's asthma is controlled and of any changes in your child's symptoms.
Responding quickly to worsening asthma symptoms.
