Assistive Technology (AT) is technology that assists people of all ages with disabilities to be able to communicate, have mobility, and to help improve physical and mental activities that are difficult to perform on a daily basis. Technology is a great equalizer for individuals with disabilities to have full participation in which may otherwise be difficult to accomplish. Assistive technology in education is a tool/tools used in a classroom to help students have solutions that are accommodating to physical sensory or cognitive impairments. When technology is applied for a classroom, technology has a wide variety of instruments that are helpful. Technology can be any piece of equipment, service or product system acquired that is modified or customized to maintain, increase or improve functions that could make a student’s education more successful. Much of the assistive technology today is used in a special education classroom because of the different learning needs and disabilities students have in order to make their education more successful. Some of the most common disabilities are speech and language impairments, including intellectual disabilities to emotional disorders and hearing/vision impairments that are mostly observed in a classroom. …show more content…
There are three primary brain networks that come into play. 1). Recognition network, the what of learning, it’s the way we gather facts, categorize what we see, hear, and read, for example; identifying letters and sounds. 2) Strategic networks, the how of learning, planning and performing tasks.
