Assisting Client Reflection

Assisting client- This week I worked on getting in contact with the pregnant women or those who have delivered within the last 3 months. I was able to get in touch with most of them and talked to them about what they need. One of the interns is working on her master degree in public health and she is working a project. She is trying to see if the immigrant’s community have a hard time accessing their culture food. She is looking for participants for her project so I am also researching out to these women and asking them if they would like to participate in the study. I was also able to find resources in the community that can help them with their needs. I will be getting in contact with these organizations this week to establish a relationship. I have a couple of walk-in clients so I was able to make appointments for them. …show more content…

Sometimes it’s difficult to know if and how my presentations and offers of information and handouts are being received by the clients I see at the food banks I visit. Last week at Federal Way Food Bank, I was fortunate to interact with a regular client who gave me a little insight. K welcomed me warmly, and told me she hadn’t been able to come to the food bank but once a month since her car broke down in November. She continued to share how she was able to be very frugal and prepare tasty dishes for herself and her son with food she had stored and items shopped for at her infrequent trips to the supermarket. She went on to praise me and the great recipes she received during my demonstrations.…

As a Community Center Assistant, I will ensure that when students, families, and friends walk into the residence hall they will understand that education is valuable. I will have my assignments neatly arranged on the table so that when I sign people in, they will see that one can be a Community Center Assistant while also excelling in their academics and helping the community. Being able to compare how society has progressed just in sixty years is a breathtaking moment, sometimes you need to take a step back to absorb it and place things into perspective. The movie I have chosen to watch on the Xfinity app was The Help. It is a movie about the daily life and obstacles that black women must face and how their lives are impacted on by white people’s culture. This movie was insightful to me and everyone else that has ever watched it. The movie portrays what life was like right before Martin Luther King Jr. gave his speech “I have a dream speech” in 1963.…

The semester 3 clients care clinic started off as very nerve-racking experiences for me but slowly turned into more exciting and comfortable. Through these semesters there was a lot of important information that we have all earned and it is important to bring it all together to be successful in clinics. We have also learned about dental hygiene process of care model and that is a significant aspect in client care clinics. As we started clinic in week 2 I found that my time management skills were not as good. I found myself wasting time and not using it efficiently but as more clinics happened, I got better and was able to do things in advanced, which really helped.…

Thus far, I have learned many important aspects of becoming an effective therapist. One of the major parts of training involves evaluation and feedback from supervisors or peers. I think evaluations are an important part of training because it provides feedback to areas, which you are doing well in, and areas in which you will need improvement. I believe that without evaluations, we as therapist cannot grow into effective therapist. To date I cannot think of any job or career that does not use “end of the year evaluations”.…

In matching Janet’s posture, language and tone, I reflected back to Janet her external behaviours. When I commented to Janet “and because you know that at the base of it’s not you it’s him” I put into my words her thoughts regarding his behaviour. Janet’s response of “well that’s the thing, I don’t let it affect me anymore…” allowed her to then explore why her reactions to her ex-husband had changed. I found this skill of counselling particularly difficult in this session due to our friendship.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

Asking for help is something that has always been a difficult task for me. As a social worker in the making, it is always hard for me to understand why individuals in need have a problem with seeking help or support, when I have the same difficulties. I never paid much attention to this, but its an eye opener now that I’m thinking about a time in my life where I needed to ask for help. Some would classify me as being prideful, but I would not identify myself as such, nonetheless very independent. Growing up in a low income household, in an environment that was underprivileged I felt that I had to become independent prematurely.…

My Action Plan During this semester, I have discovered useful information about myself, and as I move forward, I will be using the various learning tools and skills. However, before deciding how to improve my methods of learning plan, I took the time to review my transcripts/advising worksheet. I need forty-nine credits overall, I have eighteen scheduled over the next two semesters, which includes the ones I am taking right now.…
