There’s also how nurses and physician feel about the procedure. Within this journal the author, Luke Evans did a survey and conducted how nurses feel about physician assisted suicide. Of course, some nurses were against it and some were in favor of it. He found out that 49% of nurses were supportive of it and 40% were opposed. In another article, the results of Mr. Evans was similar to what Ms. Parpa conducted with her survey. So, in her journal it states, “The final sample consisted of 215 physicians, 250 nurses, 218 relatives and 246 lay people. A survey questionnaire was used concerning issues such as euthanasia and physician assisted suicide. The survey instrument included 13 questions and described issues such as religious and spiritual beliefs, euthanasia, physician assisted suicide and decision-making situations.” (Parpa, 2010). Within this research, It mentions how about 43% of doctors are fore physician assisted suicide, but only in the matter of if the patient is dealing with heart and/or respiratory arrest. They will not assistant to patients who are terminally ill. Overall, the outcome for these nurses and doctors reasoning for the legalization of physician assisted suicide were similar. The study of doctors and nurses attitudes towards assisted suicide, was gathered by ICU nurses and doctors in the study group and non-ICU nurses in the control group. …show more content…
This study was conducted by students that go to the University of Nottingham. Comparing the state level of suicide before and after it was legalized, including assisted suicide and non assisted. While conducting their research they found that “Introduction of PAS was neither associated with a reduction in non assisted suicide rates nor with an increase in the mean age of non assisted suicide. Legalizing PAS has been associated with an increased rate of total suicides relative to other states and no decrease in non assisted suicides." (2015). So, it doesn 't matter for the side who is against of physician assisted suicide because even if it was legalized the rates of non assisted suicide for those who are sick still did not decrease. There 's just more people who will go to a physician than doing it at home because it will be a less painful death. Therefore, the legalization of physician assisted suicide should be determined by taking a look at the patients who are in ICU and by letting them have the right to “ Death with Dignity Act”. Letting them choose what they want with their own body instead of medicine/machines chose for
