A patient needs to understand that doctors in some states have a legal obligation to not provide them with their requested services. In states where assisted suicide is legal, it is up to the individual doctors to prescribe the medication. If a physician refuses to prescribe the medication, the patient can then go on to find a different doctor who will help. A hospital needs to make sure that its employees work in a comfortable environment, where its workers do not feel pressured to practice in a way they find unethical. A hospital could organize a volunteer system where they volunteer for the community’s local hospice program. While the employees are volunteering, they would be able to interact with terminally ill people of all ages, instead of just volunteering with elderly people. This debate affects all age groups, so businesses have a duty to be aware of all the aspects of it. Having the company volunteer in the community may also make community members aware of the company’s position on this topic, which could lead to them being looked at with more respect.
