Assisted Living Vs Nursing Home Essay

Since I was young, nursing homes and assisted living facilities have intrigued me and made me wonder about what goes on behind the closed doors. For years, I have heard about how the elderly are lonely and often mistreated when put in these facilities, but once actually talking to workers from these facilities, I learned that this is very untrue. Residents are given more opportunities and better care than ever before according to the workers I talked to from these facilities. Both Nursing homes and Assisted living facilities have major changes happening within them all the time in order to better the quality of life for the patients and elderly folks that live inside their doors. Twenty years ago regulations were easier to fulfill, residents were healthier and younger, less care of patients was needed, and prices have now almost tripled in order to live in these facilities. State governments and regulations have caused for workers and patients to have less enjoyment in some aspects of the working and living facility. After all the research I have completed I have found that with all of these many changes that have occurred, only very few things have been kept the same. Things such as patients and maximum care for the residents are still very important factors that play into the overall happiness of everyone in these facilities. Room sizes have generally stayed the same, and the ability to make decisions and have visitors at your own leisure are still the same also.
