Assisted Living Facilities: A Case Study

 In the end, it was decided that Mr. McIntosh would be best suited in an Assisted Living Facility. As comfortable as he was in his home, it was determined he would be even more comfortable in the same type of environment. When searching for the best living environment ,there are many factors to consider such as insurance, finance, and medical needs. Fortunately, for Mr. McIntosh he has a HMO policy which provides coverage for an ALF. Based on his medical condition, he will receive the necessary treatment. Another great fact is the Assisted living facility is licensed by the state. If a nursing facility, ALF, or skilled facility is not licensed, coverage will be denied by Medicare, Medicaid, long term care insurance and Medicate advantage …show more content…
Long term care insurance is provided for individuals who meets a certain criteria. With this program, individuals who are Medicaid eligible, and requires long term care support may receive care in their home, assisted living facility, hospice and etc. In the state of Florida, the long term care insurance functions like an HMO and only cover long term care service, not medical care. Private pay is an option that many individuals use when their insurance doesn't provide coverage for assisted living facility. Most assisted living facilities provides financial plans so it will be affordable for the residents to afford. Fortunately, some residents are able to use their retirement, savings, social security annuities, etc. to pay for housing in the assisted living. Supplemental insurance is another form of reimbursement for assisted living. There is a program called “Aid and Attendance” that is a pension benefits created for veterans offered by the Veterans Administration. This pension benefit allows Veterans and surviving spouses to receive assistance with bathing ,eating, toileting, dressing and etc. if needed. It also includes care received in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or at home care.
