Overall, the film did a great job of depicting the professional helpers of substance abuse. It explored the many ways, and instances in which, a helper may be present within the process of abstinence and treatment. The helpers were assisting the individuals throughout their addictions in many different and useful ways. I believe that the film did a great job of showing the different arrays of helpers and what their specific roles may be in the process of abstinence and treatment.
The helper’s statements were very realistic and helpful. The film did not go in depth with these individual’s roles specifically, but they did examine what their role was and how they assisted others. Specifically, the women who worked at Recovery Café, her statements were realistic. She facilities the group, that was depicted in the film, in real life; therefore, she went through the exact steps that a group facilitator would go through in order to promote open discussions and support. It examined how addiction affects the lives of the abuser and their loved ones, and it provided real statistics with medical references. Yes, the movie had an anti-alcohol/drug message, because after all, the goal of the film was to explain the opioid crisis within America. Although there were not actually physical signs, the film did make a point to explain that drug/alcohol use is not okay. It depicted real substance abuse and the consequences that come with it.
