MLS Librarian Interview
The librarian I interviewed is a branch manager at a public library. The interviewee’s education started out at Washington State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Family and Consumer Sciences. The interviewee moved with her family to Missouri to pursue her teaching certification in early childhood and elementary education at the University of Central Missouri. The interviewee moved with her family to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia for her masters in library science. The interviewee feels the training and experiences that prepared her for this profession started in Washington. The interviewee worked for the Washington State Parks Department, for the trademark department in the state capitol building in Olympia, and finally as the office manager for the president of state parks associations in Washington. The interviewee got a job at the Brooklyn Public Library system. The interviewee started at the Cortelyou Library as a reference librarian, then was transferred to the Dyker Library and promoted to assistant manager. The interviewee was acting manager at Dyker for several weeks because her manager was injured. The interviewee had the opportunity to become the children’s manager for the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library South Branch for 3 years. The interviewee started at Mid-Continent Public library as a branch librarian and later became branch manager.
