In the article “‘Blackicans’ and Other Reinvented Americans” Richard Rodriguez defines assimilation as something that happens when a person comes into a group, and becomes more like that group. Rodriguez is for and against assimilation he states “i am in favor of assimilation. i am not in favor of assimilation. i recognize assimilation”, he sees it as something that is inevitable(91). Assimilation has been viewed differently, and has been seen in a different perspective by many Americans.
Americans have often resisted assimilation, especially if it meant racial mixing or cultural blending. In the article Rodriguez states this:

The Canadian model for instance is more like a salad bowl where you have all kinds of veggies but yet they are all unique, separate, and they don't end up blended together. Rodriguez states that, “America has so readily adopted the Canadian notion of multiculturalism because it preserves our preferences for thinking ourselves separate”, they have embraced this notion because they want to be diverse, but they also want to keep the culture unique and pure(89). He grew up with immigrants as parents and he saw how they struggled to assimilate. America has been based on people having rights and begin equal. And not allowing immigrants to have equal rights and begin able to have an affordable education would defeat the purpose of assimilating. So I do believe that Rodriguez would support this legislation because it would be supporting diversity and assimilation. The Dream Act would be beneficial for America.
The Dream Act has helped many immigrants accomplish their dreams of attending universities/colleges, not only has it helped them but it would help the U.S. This would let immigrants attain a higher education, and with that they would be able to get better jobs. As time passes this would lead to a better economy in the U.S it would increase job flow. The more they get paid the more they will pay taxes and this would most definitely increase economy in
