Ethics is the way in which a human being chooses to behave, in a particular situation and virtue is the characteristics with which this individual possesses. Assessing a situation ethically would include asking questions such as; what do I do? how do I know it’s the right thing? or how should I respond? (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks & Meyer 2014). The virtuous person would have character traits such as; bravery, prudence and justice (Ethics Guide 2014). Rules of ethics and the traits of a virtuous person will enable one to make sound moral decisions, which will impact both themselves and the other persons positively. This is not always the case but all decisions have consequences and the choice to make the most ethical one is key.
Duty theories also called deontological or non-consequentialist speaks to human beings having clear obligations that are morally specific. For example, it is our duty as humans to care for our children and not to murder other human beings (Fieser n.d). According to Fieser (n.d) under the duty theory, there are four concepts identified. The first is by Samuel Pufendorf which is duty to God, self and others.
Duty to God is to acknowledge his existence and to worship him both inwardly and outwardly.
Duty to self is to develop skills and talents and not to harm our bodies or kill

This is not really a dilemma of sorts, but it is a situation of ethics. At my place of employment, I have a job that could be considered to be a low level skill job. In essence, I am at the bottom of the ranks as it relates to the position. I believe that because of this, I have faced unethical behavior from my colleagues. It is my opinion that these references are demeaning and disrespectful and so it does make me feel like a means to an end or an instrument only there to carry out the

My level of concern about privacy when it comes to my location and whereabouts would rank as a 7 for me on a scale of 1 to 10. I am uncomfortable with my location being tracked, but I do not think that the people with access to it would use it maliciously. I assume that the people who could possibly have access to this information would be my cell service provider and the makers of apps on my phone. I think that apps should be allowed to use this information if it provides for a better experience, such as using google maps to get accurate directions. However, I would like to block most apps and my service provider from accessing my location.…

However, in regards to why natural duties must be fulfilled, he offers no explanation other than simply stating that ignoring one’s natural duties should never be permitted because it “cannot be fully justified from a moral point of view” (152). When he mentions one particular natural duty later in the article, the duty of justice, he claims that it “gives each person a strong moral reason” (153) which, again, provides no further support. Why should the simple fact that we are moral persons unconditionally motivate us to fulfill our duties? Why are we naturally moral persons to begin with? We are not born with intrinsic, unconditional moral duties embedded in our nature.…

Virtue ethics starts with the question, “What makes for a good, or excellent, person?” They answer the question by arguing that being a good person is about having a good character. A character is a set of dispositions and those who have a good character are naturally disposed to do good things. It is believed that those with good characters are “virtuous” and that good character traits are virtues, while bad character traits are vices. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a virtue is a good and moral quality (2013).…

From the four cases, I chose to apply the two philosopher’s theories to case number two. This case states the dilemma “My full-time (but not live-in) babysitter hinted that she would like to use my address to enroll her daughter in my excellent local public elementary school; her neighborhood school is awful. The alternative is for her to send her daughter to private school, a financial burden but not an impossibility. Should I offer my address?”…
