I once had a patient who was born in Georgia, and me being Mexican of course we will have different ideas, beliefs, and thought processes. So he brought his four children to clinic, I explained to him about getting the girls some topical fluoride, and I didn’t even get to explain the benefits and the procedure of giving them fluoride when he cut me off and said no. When he said no, it made me a little irritated because in some places in my country not only are there no places that people get fluoridated water or even access to dental care and here is this man with children who don’t have this kinds of problems and is refusing to get the best possible preventive treatment for his daughters and he just refuses on his personal belief. Why is she asking me if I want the girls to get fluoride, when they already got the teeth cleaned, their treatment is already done. No, I do not want the girls to have fluoride because it is bad for them. I heard or saw it somewhere that it is bad to give fluoride to children.
