Writing. When I hear the word writing I automatically begin to panic. My mind begins to go blank in terms of what I would write about or what I need to do. Having taken Writing 10 this semester I feel more at ease and confident in my writing abilities. I have grown in a multitude of ways as a writer that include how to think about an idea and how to translate it to a question, as before I merely wrote about a topic rather than actually driving into the topic. But as I grew as a writer I faced a couple challenges along the way. One challenge I faced along the way in Writing 10 was coming up with a research question and whether my question was too broad or too narrow to begin with. I then began to do research by looking at sources from a broad …show more content…
One of the things I have learned about myself as a writer is to research a given topic and really understand the topic in not just one view but in multiple views. I have learned that in order to acquire good information I have to be open to thinking critically about the question I am trying to answer. When looking at potential sources one has to look at whether the source is from a reliable resource or not to ensure they are getting valid information. As of before I would only use Google to find my sources and would usually use the ones that appeared on the top. Being able to examine a source based on its quality, research is less intimidating and I feel that I have been given the tools to do research the correct way. That being said, because we were able to go through the steps of research I was able to fully understand how each step is important and should not be ignored. Furthermore, Quality is more important than quantity. I have learned to judge a source and determine if it is right to use by looking at its credibility, point of view (whether the author appears to be biased), date of article published and various other things. Having been able to go through the research process in class I can now look into the future and say confidently that I have the ability to search for reliable sources. Though I may feel this way as a researcher as a writer itself I have so much to learn. One of the things I hope to acquire as I expose myself to writing is the ability to make my sentences flow, as I am aware that I may seem to jump around a lot and can not seem to fix it. But as everything else writing will only get better with

Upon reading chapter 5 from Holdstein’s “Who says? The Writer’s Research” I found myself faced with a number of ideas I had been unfamiliar with. After thoroughly examining this chapter, I realized that previously, I hadn’t properly evaluated resources, which is a mistake I made as someone who gathers research and analyzes various ideas in my writing. Throughout this chapter, I took notice that I, as a writer, have three main responsibilities: conducting a thorough search for sources using the proper key words, carefully and meticulously, yet efficiently analyzing sources, and determining the rationality of a source. While these ideas may present themselves as challenging, as I had been previously unfamiliar with them, if I acquire the proper…

Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

My goal for this week was to double check my work in class. I planned on achieving this by double checking the instructions before starting and reviewing my work once i finished If i thought i was wrong, or if i was having trouble i would ask the teacher. There was no difficulty as I there were very few assignments handed out this week. This being because i finished all of the assigned projects in Mr. Laporta’s class(BTT101) the previous week, the woodworking class hardly ever assigning paperwork and Mrs. Falsica’s class (SNC101) giving ample time to finish basic paperwork. I applied the above methods to finish the paperwork in SNC 101.…

Working for the quality of my work and not for the grade has become my new mindset of the English subject, it has become a major improvement/emphasis in my daily life while attending this first quarter of 8th Grade English Honors based on motivational sayings by Mr. Royal. The development of this concept of mine has worked its way up and constructed itself based on the concept Mr. Royal has delivered to us about not only working hard, but being able to comprehend the overall image of the text, or literature, etc. Conveying the overall image of comprehension was a real hassle for me at first, but as the days flew by in this first quarter of English, I have learn to exhale all the stress, failures, and mishaps, and turn them into words that…
