The first presidential debate
The 2nd biggest event was the first presidential debate. This was so significant because of the fact that it was the first time the candidates faced off in debate. Although Hilary Clinton was the winner of the debate, according to political experts Donald trump one the election as a whole. The debate was in Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. There were 3 major topics, and they had equal amounts of time to speak, even though one candidate had about 5 minutes more than the other, according to CNN. When the debate came on, I was interested in watching it because I wanted to see how they would stack up against each other in a debate. The moderator was Lester Holt, who works on NBVC. We watched it all together in CE, and we came to a conclusion that Lester was a little buyess, and he pushed Trump more than Clinton. In other words, Lester questioned trump more and asked him more questions.

The debates took place in seven out of the nine congressional districts in Illinois because before they agreed to debate each other they had already spoken in the previous two districts at two different times. The way the debates would take place is that one person would open and speak for an hour. Then the other person would do a rebuttal to the opening statement for an hour and a half, followed by the opening speaker person who would provide a closing statement for half an hour. The first debate took place in Ottawa in front of about 10,000-12,000 people.…

The presidential election of 2000 created great controversy throughout the country regarding claims that some African Americans and other Democratic voters were not allowed to vote in Florida for various reasons. Some of these reasons included claims that the voter did not have proper identification cards, manipulating a list of former felons to exclude thousands from voting, and even different acts of intimidation. Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election focuses on the suspicious pattern of irregularities, and “voter-purges”, which happened in a state governed by Jeb Bush, George Bush’s brother. Since Jeb Bush had a personal interest in helping his brother win the presidential election, we can easily understand how easy it is for thousands of American citizens to be denied their right to vote for their candidate. Throughout this documentary, one can clearly see the unethical behavior of politicians and the failing of democracy in the United States during this time period.…

The election of 1896 signified the end of political standoffs. This was the last election in which a candidate tried to win the White House with mostly agrarian votes. This election was pivotal because it helped urbanize the country and it was the first election after the Depression of 1893. Presidential candidates Robert McKinley, who was a Republican and in favor of industrializing the United States, and William Jennings Bryan, who was a Democrat, tried to win the election by campaigning all across the country. The Depression of 1893 placed the Democrats on the defensive, which in turn restored Governor McKinley's stature in national politics.…

The Presidency, debatably one of the most successful American experiments to date. Over 200 years ago 55 delegates came together to write the Constitution that our country uses to this today. They debated and discussed how our nation would run, who had power and how much, how to maintain a fair and balanced government, and they outlined each branch. Article two describes the role of the President and the powers that are bestowed onto him; however, article two is significantly shorter than article one (about the legislative branch) allowing whoever presides as President to interpret it to his own accord. These delegates knew that Washington was honorable enough to be granted the power to be the first President of the United States.…

One of the most uncommon debates was held on Thursday night, just four days before the Iowa caucuses: A republican debate without a front runner. Donald Trump did not attend the debate as he claimed that Fox News and the moderator Megyn Kelly treated him poorly. Instead, Donald Trump held his own event, raising money for veterans. That being said, seven rivals were left on stage, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, John Kasich and Rand Paul.…
