This review used three databases to search for the PICO question. The three databases used were Speechbite, PubMed, and CINAHL. These three sources were recommended to use by a librarian at Hardin Library for Health Sciences. Speechbite was chosen since it strictly made for speech and language interventions. PubMed has around 5000 articles relating to many specialties in the medical field. Similarly to PubMed, CINAHL has around 3000 journals for nurses and other professions in the medical setting. The inclusion criteria for this review were: the article must include “parents” and “autism” in the title, “social skills” or “social communication needed to be in either the title or abstract, and the article needed to be about intervention, and not assessment or anything else. The article needed to at least briefly describe the intervention used, and results needed to be reported. Thirty-one articles were accessed when the three terms were searched. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 8 articles were left. The next database search was PubMed. After entering in the three keywords 111 articles were accessed. Once the inclusion criteria were applied, 4 articles were left. Lastly, CINAHL was searched using the keywords. After entering in the search terms 348 articles were accessed. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria 3 articles were left. After filtering out the overlap of articles from the three databases, and further review of the article and its abstracts, five articles were selected for this review. Three of the five articles used children in the desired age range. The age range criteria were applied last since it was more important to get articles for parent-implemented social skills therapy.
