Critical Thinking Writing Assignment #1 Receiving a college degree is easy, just show up to class and follow the saying “C’s get degrees” right? Wrong, college is more challenging than that. In order to graduate from The University of Charleston, a graduate must meet certain Liberal Learning Outcomes (LLOs). A student could gain one from a math class or a science class, but the one I am going to focus on is the 4.1 Critical Thinking LLO, which I hope to acquire from this humanities course. For example, when I have an argument with my boyfriend once the fight ends, I try to figure out if I am reacting appropriately to the situation. Considering that this is one of the only times I find myself examining my thoughts, I would like to become a better critical thinker. I believe that the ability to think critically is so important in the workplace, developing relationships, and influencing personal voice. My plan to improve my critical thinking skills include: becoming fully invested in this course, reading more, and to get out of my comfort zone to meet new people.
To me, critical thinking is trying to understand and make connections in the material. I am always excited to learn, gain news ideas, and improve upon old ones. In today’s society, I cannot trust what is televised, I have to do my own research on the news. Through all of that research, I develop who I am, what I believe in, and ultimately improve my critical thinking skills.
