2Creating an ECE class that is rich in multiculturalism is really important to not only the children but to the educator as well. We want to create an environment that makes every child and family feel welcome and invited. Using proper materials can aid in helping the children learn and still play. For this assignment, I wrote about the things that I would incorporate in my preschool classroom that would expose children to various cultures. A few of my favorites include the multicultural set of markers and crayons, all the various ethnic play food sets they have out, and having an assortment of culturally diverse baby dolls, puppets, people, and dress up clothes. The crayons are a great way for children to be able to creatively express themselves with having a choice in using whatever color appeals with them. It can help show there are many colors of people and no one fits in just one category. Being a preschool teacher, I know that one of the most popular areas is the dramatic play area. This is where all the children cook dinners, become moms and dads to their favorite dolls, and usually always dress the part. Having a variety of foods, clothes, and dolls in this area can help the children have an understanding about our differences. Some children may not know what a sushi roll is, but having the play food available to them, the Asian child who eats sushi frequently is excited to share that they know what that is and to share experience with the
